Time to dust off your Little Black Dress
We are fast approaching Christmas and hurtling towards LBD Season, so what better way to make sure the stiches won’t burst than by reading our LBD Party Season Guides. This week - pretox guide and exercise tips.
You shall go to to the ball; but without feeling exhausted and starving hungry!
Everyone likes to indulge a bit (or a lot!) at Christmas, but it is pretty obvious that late nights, lots of drinking and rich food put’s the body under great stress, therefore it is important that you prepare yourself for the inevitable late nights.
Think Raw
First off, do not skip meals thinking you will snack on party food or drink later; it is the sure fire way to make you feel tired and irritable. Eating regulary is crucial, four or five small healthy meals a day will help you build-up your metabolism. Fruit, vegatables and wholegrains are good. Try to cut down on the processed sugars. Also, try to eat lots of raw foods, as they are extremely rich in nutrients (nothing lost or destroyed in the cooking process). In this way you can stock up. Remember a hungry body goes into famine mode, which ultimately reduces your energy levels.
You Gut Me
Correctly managing the gut can be a game changer. The reason? Eighty per cent of our immunity is in our gut, where most of the vital bacteria that fight off toxins from food and other invading bugs reside. Strong digestive health is directly linked to the health of our immune system. Scientific evidence now shows that the types of food that you eat will directly determine the levels of certain good bacteria in your gut. Taking a good probiotic here can be a great help.
Drink Smart
It takes up a lot of resources for the body to metabolise alcohol, vitamins/nutrients are depleted, and alcohol itself destroys essential B vitamins. It’s therefore a good idea to build up your stores by drinking plenty of (not from concentrate) fruit and vegetable juice. Obviously, you want to be hydrated (but not over hydrated – that can kill you) as well, drink plenty of water or coconut water this will get you feeling more energised and can help the condition of your skin. A quick tip: drink a shot full of olive oil before you start drinking.
Beauty Sleep
We often overlook the importance of sleep. It’s vital that you get an adequate amount. The general recommendation is eight hours a night and it’s crucial that you get in as many good nights sleep before the party season gets into full swing. Getting enough can improve both physical and mental wellbeing. Research shows that a good night sleep can lower stress levels and help prevent depression and anxiety. Tip: Try a 30 minute powernap before you go out.
