Top Tips for Winter Skin Care

The Smarter Way To Care for Your Skin

As winter sets in and our busy lives continue, our skin often takes the toll and can start to feel dry, itchy and sore. Beat the winter blues with our top tips for maintaining silky smooth skin through the winter months.

1. Limit your shower time and temperature

We know that most people crave a red hot bath or shower after a wintery day outdoors, however this can be detrimental to the condition of the skin! Excessively hot water can dry out the skin and spending too long soaking can have the same impact. For optimum skin health try a 10 minute lukewarm bath or shower and your skin will thank you for it! To further boost your skin aim to moisturise as soon as you get out of the bath or shower – or why not put on a pair of Transform leggings to do the work for you!

2. Gentle Cleanser

In the winter months the air gets harsher and we turn to indoor heating to keep us warm – this can zap all of the moisture out of the skin leaving it feeling dry and dehydrated. The impact of this is often increased by a fragranced soap or cleanser. The same product your skin can handle in the summer, it can’t always cope with in the winter. Opt for a more gentle cleanser with a creamier texture for best results.

3. Modify your existing routine

Toners can often dry out the skin so think about switching up your everyday skin care routine in the winter to focus on moisturising and nourishment. This doesn’t just apply to your facial routine – regular moisturising of the whole body will have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of your skin throughout the winter. Proskins Transform can do all of this for you – all you have to do is put them on!

Try cutting down on fragranced products as these can strip the natural oils from the skin. Do not forget about the lips and hands! Regularly apply hand cream – especially after washing hands – and lip balm to prevent chapping.

4. Wear Sun Cream

Especially if you live somewhere that gets lots of snow or are heading to a winter resort during the holidays! The snow reflects the sun back to your skin and while the UVB rays that cause sunburn are weaker during the winter, the UVA rays that cause wrinkles, premature ageing and other skin damage – are as strong the whole year around! Don’t forget sun cream just because it isn’t sunny or summer!

5. Wear non Irritating Fabric

Winter is usually the go to time for big woolly jumpers but these cold weather fabrics can be known to irritate the skin. For best skin care keep these fabrics out of direct contact with the skin and opt for a breathable and comfortable base layer to go underneath your jumpers and keep your skin feeling fresh.

6. Eat Well and Stay Hydrated

We often forget to hydrate as the weather gets colder, but during the winter it is still as important as ever to drink lots of water. Certain food supplements can also help with dry skin, such as omega-3 which can be found in fish oil and flaxseed oil.
