It is the usual scenario, straight after New Year, the resolutions are at the forefront of our minds, and motivation is high. But as January rolls into February something starts to change, those resolutions you made all those weeks ago get pushed aside for something you’ve told yourself is more important.

At Proskins we know just how tough it can be to maintain all of those health and fitness goals you merrily told yourself you would at 11:37pm on New Years Eve! We’ve come together to give you our top tips to keep that motivation going and important little boosts for those times when you feel like you’re struggling.

At Proskins we know just how tough it can be to maintain all of those health and fitness goals you merrily told yourself you would at 11:37pm on New Years Eve! We’ve come together to give you our top tips to keep that motivation going and important little boosts for those times when you feel like you’re struggling.

1. Take Progress Pics

Take photos and take lots of them. Ditch the scales in favour of them! Photos are one of the easiest ways to track progress and one of the most rewarding ways of visualising what you’ve achieved! Schedule a monthly date to take the same pictures, in similar clothing and be motivated by the results.

2. Choose Exercise that you Enjoy

I cannot stress this one enough! If you’ve been beating yourself up at the gym, going to a particular class that you dread every week, forcing yourself out for a run when you hate it, then change your routine! Sustainable exercise routines have to be something that you enjoy. Try something new, try a few different things until you find what works for you. We’re all different, what works for one may not work for the other, so don’t be afraid to experiment until you find something you love. That is the easiest way to ensure you always want to go back!

3. Grab A Friend

Once you’ve got your friend on board you’ve always got someone to help you out. They’re the best people to encourage you and the best people to have fun with. Go for a walk, try a couch to 5k together, join some gym classes, and train together! Whatever it is you’ll always have your friend there to give you that much needed boost.

4. Refresh Your Workout Gear

This has to be one of my favourite things to do when I’m lacking in motivation. Grab some new gear, maybe just one piece that you’ve been looking at for the last month and I can guarantee you’ll be excited again to work out in it!

5. Make a Personalised Playlist

Music is one of the best ways to get lost in the moment, so whatever you’re doing make sure you’re blasting out a playlist of all your favourite songs and I can guarantee you’ll feel much more energised and ready to go!

6. Don't Try to do too much

One of the biggest motivation killers is often having too much on your plate. Think realistically and think achievably. One really good and productive workout is much better than three rushed, tired ones! You’ll feel better for having a solid routine and be more productive with your time.
